hessonite Hessonite is a variety of Grossularite Garnet. It's color ranges from a warm brownish yellow, brownish orange to brownish red. A good quality Hessonite, is one that reflects the color of the urine of a cow, that is, having a nice honey color. The most excellent varieties of this gem come from the Island country of  Sri Lanka. They are called Ceyloni Hessonites Blue and green hessonite or the white colorless variety of hessonite are not associated with Rahu.  Recognising a Hessonite

 

  • A pure and good quality hessonite is light yellow in color, the color of gow mutra or cows urine, with some reddish tinge.
  • It is usually heavy, is slippery and has shades of color simlar to that of honey.
  • A good hessonite resembles the eyes of  owl and eagle, and is not layered.
  • On immersing a pure hessonite in cows urine for 24 hours, the color of the urine will change.
  • Real hessonite is devoid of concentric rings of air bubbles.
     
  • Will not have the following: dullness, roughness, hole or dents, flat, black spot.

 

Wearing a Hessonite

  • Hessonite should be worn on a Saturday, in the hora of Rahu, under the swati, shatbhisha, aadhra or ravipushya yog nakshatras.
  • It should be set up in a ring made of iron or mixture of five metals (panch dhatu).
  • It should be energised with the recitation of rahu beej mantra,  " Om Bhraan Bhriin Bhraun Sae: Rahveh Nameh. " 
  • Than it shall be worn on the Middle Finger of the Right hand.
  • The gemstone should be of   5, 7 or 9 rattis.
  • After wearing the ring, and conducting havan for seeking the blessings of Sun God, the wearer should religiously give away blue colored clothes, blankets, til, bajra etc with dakshina to brahmins.
