It is called 'manikya ' in sanskrit and 'manak' or 'maanik' in hindi. It is ruled by the planet Sun and is blessed by Sun God. It is a mineral (stone) of  the corundum family, is a mixture of Aluminum, Oxygen, Iron and Chromium and is attractive because of its brilliance. It is found in Burma, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Kabul (Afghanistan), Tanganyika, China and South India.

 

 Recognising a Ruby

 

  • Real and finest Ruby has a delicate red rose color.
  • When held in hand its heaviness in weight is easily felt. It has  high density.
  • A real good quality Ruby has transparent qualities and is found in a variety of crimson and scarlet red colors ranging from pink to a deep ruddy violet color. 
  • When kept on ones palm, the holder can feel some energy or heat in the area of contact.
  • When kept in a glass plate or vessel, light red coloured rays shall be seem coming from the stone.
  • When kept in cows milk, the colour of the milk will appear to be pinkish. 

 

Wearing a Ruby

 

  •  Ruby should ideally be worn on a Sunday that falls in the Hora of the Sun in the Kritika, Uttaraphalguni or Uttarashhada nakshatras, under the ravipunya yog. 
  • It should be set in a ring made of Gold or Copper.
  • It should be energised with the recitation of surya beej mantras and worn in the Ring finger (as the Sun line is found on the mount of Sun located just below the ring finger on the palm).
  • The gemstone should be of  3, 5, 7 or 9 rattis.
  • Surya Beej Mantra - " Om,  Hrahn,  Hrihn,  Hraonh,  Sae:  Suryaay Nameh. " 
  • After wearing the stone as prescribed above, the wearer should religiously recite 3 malas of the Gayatri Mantra, perform havan and offer respects to the Sun God, and should donate with his own hands items that are related to the Sun God like Copper plate/ utensil, coconut, wheat, jaggery and red cloth etc.

Ruby  must be worn by those whose Zodiac sign or rashi  is Leo ( Sinh) or the sun's position in his horoscope is weak. Wearing a Ruby in the prescribed manner provides fame and popularity in political sphere, leads to son birth, removes poverty and imparts prosperity.
